Building a Better Future for Secure Parking (Archive)

press-news/latest-news/article/building-a-better-future-for-secure-parking-archive/

APCOA PARKING (UK) has been awarded a two-year safer parking award at its managed multi-storey car park (MSCP) on Avenue Road in Bournemouth.

The 895-space barrier controlled car park - owned by Bournemouth Borough Council - received the desired Park Mark award after Dorset Police recorded no vehicle crime at the MSCP over past 12 months.

In his summary report, John Green - Bournemouth-based Crime Prevention Officer and Park Mark assessor - found that Avenue Road MSCP is a good example of a well-managed facility designed and built to incorporate security to a high standard.

The assessor also concluded that on-site APCOA staff are engaged in daily management briefings, which are underpinned by visits from APCOA's regional manager at least once a month for added business continuity.

APCOA operates a shift-work rata at Avenue Road, which means that the car park is manned by uniformed officers between 07:00 and 22:00. Attendants regularly patrol the facility, which is supported by a 31-camera CCTV system, which covers all entrance and egress points.

Pay-on-foot machines and customer service intercoms are also available on each floor and are linked to the APCOA's on-site office.

APCOA attendants are all trained in-house in the areas of customer service, conflict management, equipment operations, and health and safety.

June 2015 | APCOA PARKING (UK) has been awarded the safer parking award for its managed multi-storey car park (MSCP) at Northwick Park Hospital.

The 512-space west Middlesex barrier controlled MSCP car park, which is owned by the London North West NHS Trust, was awarded with a three-year Park Mark award after it recorded very low levels of crimes.

In his summary report, Robert Masdin – Ealing-based Crime Prevention Officer and Park Mark assessor – found that APCOA’s staff were well-versed in the provision of car park security and handover procedures.

The assessor also concluded that APCOA’s staff are briefed regularly by the onsite supervisory team and have an excellent working relationship with the Hospital’s own operational and security personnel, as well as the local Metropolitan Police Neighbouring Policing Team.

With no less than 408,000 vehicle movements recorded annually, APCOA staff undertake regular patrols of the four-level MSCP facility.  They also empty pay machines regularly to help any mitigate any opportunist theft, which is supported by the use of onsite and data compliant CCTV.

Northwick Park operates a 24-hour pay-on-foot system.  All shifts are manned around the clock by uniformed APCOA attendants, whom undertake regular patrols of the car park.  For added peace of mind and best practice, all APCOA colleagues are trained in-house in the areas of customer service, conflict management, equipment operations, and health and safety.  This is akin to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) standards.
